Birthday Month Giveaway #5

Our final weekly Birthday Month Giveaway! Whoo hoo! But remember, because tomorrow is my actual birthday I will be hosting yet another giveaway. Giveaways two days in a row? Insane, right?

Today we have two patterns and a little handmade lovely for one lucky winner.

First up we have this Spring Fling Apron pattern by The Apron Lady. The pattern includes small, medium, and large sizes as well as a reversible half apron!

Next up we have this pattern called Nishka's Purse, it is a pattern to make a pretty cool looking apron using some fabric for the lining and straps but the main body of the purse is made using a placemat.

I also have one of my ruffled zip pouches, in the small makeup bag size. It has a really lovely green with sprays of flowers for the main fabric, and a gorgeous Moda cream and beige print for the lining and ruffle.

The side looks a little crinkly in these picture because I stuck my computer mouse in it so it would stand up for the photo, but I promise it's not crinkly :)

So what must you do to win all of these lovelies?

Simply leave me a comment telling me about your favorite birthday!

Win a Vintage Sheet Quilt - Seriously!

The lovely Deb at Works in Progress is giving away a quilt she's pieced out of vintage pillowcases. Yes, a whole quilt. It is gorgeous, just look!

Be still my beating heart!

Deb is a super sweet lady, she sent me some vintage sheet charm squares all the way from New Zealand so that I could participate in a quilt along on her site.

Hop on over and enter to win this beautiful quilt!

Getting ready for the James Par-tay

You still have a few days left to enter the Birthday Month Giveaway #4, click here!

My little man is going to be turning one this Sunday! I can't believe it has been a whole year since he made his speedy and rather dramatic entrance into the world! James has enriched our lives immeausrably throughout the last year, and to celebrate his first birthday we are going to be having a pool side party tomorrow . . .

The theme?

Angels baseball of course!
I am sure everyone is so, so, very surprised . . . ahem.

Here is the front of his super duper cute baseball card invites!

Who can resist that smile? What a cutie pop.

I am a busy little bee trying to get everything ready for his party . . . because, um, well, I can never make it easy for myself. Because I am working yesterday and today, I was up until 2:30 am sewing and baking a cake. Tonight it's more sewing, more baking, some decorating (I may or may not be using my previously perfected on the Winnie the Pooh cake grass frosting technique), a little more sewing, frantic searching for the birthday shirt which I seem to have misplaced, and general insane pre-party busy-ness.

A few minor side notes:
a) I looked everywhere for current logo Angels fabric to add to the fabric bunting I am making. I could absolutely not find any . . . the fabric warehouse that is one city over from Angel's stadium - nothing. Joanns, a mere five miles from the Big A? Again nothing. However, they did both have Red Sox fabric . . . what the heck?
b) My Mom is awesome. She had on hand several yards of Angels fabric and sent it out to me . . . it is the old Anaheim Angels "Disney" logo, the one with the wings, many purist fans will disparage this logo, but I personally think it was kind of cute. Not as crisp as the current one, of course, but at least we were still the Anaheim Angels . . . not the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (how does that work again?)
c) The US Postal Service was shockingly prompt this week. My Mom mailed the fabric Saturday afternoon from Peabody, MA, and it was delivered to Whittier, CA, Monday morning at 11 am. I have never been more flabbergasted. Thanks post office!
d) I have discovered about myself that I can never just settle for doing something cute, I have to ramp up the cuteness factor, create more work for myself, stress myself out totally, and usually give up in tears and desperation at some forsaken pre-dawn hour the day of the event. If I ever went into event planning I would proabably produce adorable events but most likely experience a mental break within the first year.
Wish me luck.
The weather report for tomorrow is 74 degrees and mostly sunny.
Pool par-tay here we come (ready or not)!

Birthday Month Giveaway! #4

A fourth giveaway! Wowsa! I call this week's theme:

Quilting II

How extremely original of me!

For one lucky winner I have:

This cute quitling pattern by American Jane Patterns!

A book of lap quilt patterns! Eleven patterns all made using fat quarters!

And to get you started some fabric! Who doesn't love fabric? No really, who? Name me one person! I dare you!

Here are two lovely fat quarters, one is Buttercup from Joel Dewberry (love) and the other is a gorgeous stripe print from the Feelings Collection for Art Gallery Quilts.

Birthday Month Giveaway! #3

It is time for another giveaway! Yippee Skippee! I am excited!

This week's theme is:

Baby!

I love babies! Ok, who doesn't love babies? But I, as a former infertle Myrtle have a special love for babies, I know how amazing it is that any are ever even born . . .

Do you know someone who is having a baby (maybe it's you!) Or maybe like I was for so long you are waiting to have a baby . . . or a grandbaby. . .

Here are two lovely patterns that I am giving away to one lucky winner!

The first is for a nursing cover. I never personally used one because I am kind of immodest. That may be a little harsh, let's just say I am not extremely concerned with modesty, more with getting my kid fed ;) But even though I have no personal experience with this, or any, nursing cover pattern, I realize this would be a nice thing to have, and a nice thing to make as a gift for a new mom.

I also have this cute and easy pattern for a baby quilt! The pattern is called Bouncing Borders and it can be made in two different sizes (crib or lap) and has two different options for the center.

Lastly, I have this small piece of fabric, it measures 8 x 44 and features bunnies and chicks, which could be used in an easter project, or very easily in your Bouncing Borders baby quilt (could definitely get a few charm squares out of it),

So what must you do to win all this lovely goodness?

Simply leave me a comment telling me your favorite thing about babies! My favorite is the post nursing/feeding haze trance new babies get, we call it being drunk on the mama juice ;)

Park Days

Recently we have been taking advantage of the summer weather to visit some local parks (I realized after I wrote that sentence that I live in Southern California and should probably be taking my kids to parks all year long, bad mommy). Maddie and James both love the outdoors, and they both love play areas! The both happen to be rambunctious daredevils as well, but at least James is less mobile than his sister . . . for now at least.
Check out my fearless girl on the big twisty slide!

Birthday Month Giveaway! #2

Last week's birthday giveaway theme was Little Girls and this week's is . . .

. . . wait for it . . .

Are you excited yet?

I am!

Without further ado . . .

This week's theme is

Quilting!

Yay!

I have this lovely quilt pattern from Threaded Pear Studio called Bubbles on Blocks.

Isn't it cute? I bought two and am keeping one for myself, I am sure someday I will get around to making it. Funny story, I actually go to church with Stephanie, one of the lovely ladies from Threaded Pear (her son was in my Sunday School class one year). She is currently living in Switzerland with her family for a few years - I started quilting after she moved, so I haven't ever really gotten to "talk quilting" with her. When I saw that this pattern was on sale at Tall Mouse I jumped at the opportunity!

I also have this awesome book! It has seven quilt patterns all made from layer cakes! How cool is that?

Maddie is for some unknown reason in love with this book . . . it is blurry because it is an actual action shot, she is literally reading it!

Lastly, I have a fat quarter of this gingham fabric. It's got blue, red, and a really pretty, light bright blue.

Wow, I really need to get a battery for my actual camera . . . these phone photos are getting old!

So what must you do to win all of this yummy goodness?

Simply leave me a comment telling me how long you've been quilting. Maybe you are a newbie like me, or maybe you've been quilting for years, or maybe you've never quilted but know someone who does and you'd like to gift these lovelies to them! Just let me know!

Sneak Peak

We got the kid's pictures taken this weekend by the lovely Marisa of MP Photo. The photos were shot on location at the Americana at Brand in Glendale. It was gorgeous, almost too gorgeous, it had a very Truman Show-esque feel to it, especially as we started taking pictures before the stores were open. Maddie was obsessed with the water fountain and was a little bit on the wild side. She didn't want to sit or pose for pictures with her brother, but was much more interested in exploring, climbing things, and making new friends.

We will get the pictures in a few weeks, but for fun I thought I'd share a picture of these cute leg warmers I made Maddie from the tutorial at Sew Much Ado.

They're made from women's knee socks, I got 2 pairs at Target for $2 each, an argyle and these stripes. I ended up going with the stripes for the pictures and Maddie loves them so much I think I will whip her up the argyle ones as well. The go really well with all the little 80s shorts she got from Auntie Liz for her birthday. The polka dot ballet flats were a last minute purchase from Walmart for $3! How do you pass up $3 shoes?

Maddie's was all 80s-ed out for the photos, but James played it a little more cool in some dark wash jeans and a white tee - both in a size 2T, good Lord! Here are a few shots off Ed's iPhone of James relaxing while poor Marisa chased after Maddie. Jamie is a photographer's dream, he smiles and poses and is a one take wonder.

We also took some shots in their matching Angels t-shirts, in which they looked insanely adorable. Maddie showed of her throwing and catching skills, which are frighteningly good for a 2 year old.

I can't wait to see what the pictures look like! If you are in the Los Angeles area I highly recommend Marisa, she was a pleasure to work with.

Birthday Month Giveaway #1 - Winner!

The winner of Birthday Month Giveaway #1: the little girl's apron pattern, smock pattern, and Meadowsweet zippered pencil bag is . . .

Working girl

If you are looking for my giveaway you can find it here.

This is my third day "back" at work . . . ok, really I am just filling in this week at my old company, it's not even a full week because of the holiday on Monday . . .

Can I just say how impressed I am with all of the Mommas out there who do this every day? I miss my bubs so much - and I guess they miss me cause the first thing they want when I come in the door is to nurse (yes, Maddie is still nursing at 2). I am so tired! I haven't gotten anything sewn this week. We are getting pictures of the kids taken on Saturday, and I haven't put together their outfits, eeek! Seriously, this whole working business really cuts into your day!

Joking aside, I am really blessed though to have this opportunity to temp at my old company, where people like me and are glad to see me, and to have a little extra money coming in. Maybe I can reward myself with some Nicey Jane fabric? Oh pretty please?

Birthday Month Giveaway #1

Whoo hoo! The first of my Birthday month giveaways! I am kind of organizing these around themes . . . and today's theme is little girls! I have two patterns plus a little fun extra for you. One lucky winner will receive . . .

This super cute children's apron pattern from The Apron Lady, Jan Lutz. Jan actually has a blog that I follow, be sure to check it out!

This super cute "Sister Smocks" pattern from Indygo Junction. Here is the description from their site:

Chic little girls’ garments that are easy and fun to make from an assortment of coordinating fabrics. It can be worn as a sundress, jumper or topper with a t-shirt and pants. The easy construction and fit lends itself to the most novice sewer. Sizes 1-6. Doll dress pattern sold separately from Indygo Junction (Dolly Dress-up IJ804).

It occurs to me now that I could have snagged the much nicer photos of these patterns off their respective websites, but seeing as I went to all the trouble to take out my trusty iPhone and take the lamp shade off of the living room lamp for lighting, I think I will just go ahead and use my crappy photos ;)

And lastly . . .

This lovely pencil bag sized zippered pouch made by moi. It measures approx. 9 1/4 inches wide by 5 inches deep and is made with two prints from the Meadowsweet line by Sandi Henderson (oooooh, aaaaaah, pretty). Seriously, how cute are my pen and crayon props? I am including this in "Little Girls" theme giveaway because of it's size. You can chose to give it to a little girl in your life or keep it for yourself, totally up to you!

So here is the complete prize for giveaway day #1 - "Little Girls Prize Pack."

Yay!

You probably want to know how to enter, huh?

Just leave me a comment letting me know your favorite girl's name. Not that I currently have any need for little girl's name suggestions, but you know, maybe some day . . . You don't have to have a little girl, just throw a name at me.

For extra entries (and you know I love those extra entries), leave me a separate comment for each that you do:

2) Follow me on Twitter
3) Tweet about this giveaway and include a link to this post and @narniamum
